Past back-drafting, smoke damage, and corrosion was noted in the combustion chamber and heat exchanger. Due to the age and condition of the furnace an additional inspection and a water-test of the heat-exchanger should be performed. The vent connector does not maintain the proper clearance to combustible material. Install Type “B” double-wall vent pipe where the vent passes through the perforated wall board into the crawlspace. Create the required one inch air space between the Type “B” vent pipe and combustible materials where it passes through the wall and install a metal firestop around the vent pipe. Install a listed wind-cap above the roof to prevent back-drafting that was noted at the furnace.
